According to Goleman, an integrated concept of emotional intelligence offers more than a convenient framework for describing human dispositions; it offers a theoretical structure for the organization of personality and linking it to a theory of action ad job performance.

 

 

Self Awareness


It is simply ‘knowing who you are’ and understanding why you think, feel and behave the way you do. Without it you are doomed to repeat the same old mistakes you made last week/month/year, in your last job/organization. Without it you can never breakthrough the internal barriers to your own growth, for which other will not thank you. It consists of:
• Emotional awareness- Recognizing one’s emotion and their effects
• Accurate self-assessment-Knowing ones’ strength and limits
• Self-confidence – A strong sense of one’s self-worth and capabilities.


Superiors performers intentionally seek out feed back; they want to know how others are perceive them, realizing that this is valuable information. That may be part of the reason people who are self-aware are also better performers. Self awareness is an invaluable tool for change including they believe that self improvement is good. Self awareness offers a sure rudder for keeping our career decisions in harmony with our deepest values. Self awareness is a building block of commitment. Employees who know their own guiding values or purpose will have a clear even vivid sense about whether there is a ‘fit’ with the organization. When they feel a match, their commitment is strong.

 

 

Self regulation


Self regulation gives one greater emotional control. An emotionally competent person can choose responses instead of being led by emotion. And he or she can respond appropriately to an outburst of emotion. It is handling our emotions so that they facilitate rather than interfere with the task at the hand; recovering well from emotional distress. They show:
• Self control-Managing disrupts emotions and impulses effectively
• Trustworthiness-Displaying honesty and integrity
• Conscientiousness- Responsibility in fulfilling obligations.
• Adaptability- Flexibility in handling change and challenges.
• Innovation – Being open to new ideas approaches, and information.

People who have good self control manage their impulsive feelings and distressing emotions well. They stay composed, positive and unflappable even trying moments. They do think clearly and stay focused under pressure. Innovative people seek out fresh idea from a wide variety of sources and entertain original solutions to problems. They meet commitments and keep promises. They admit their own mistakes and adapt easily to the circumstances.

 

 

Motivation


Human behavior is guided by certain motives. Motive means need, want, impulse or drives. Motivation is a general term used to describe the process of starting direction and maintains physical or psychological activities. Internal needs and drives create tensions that are modified by one’s environment. It is the process that account for an individual’s intensity, direction, and persistence of effort towards attain a goal.They show:
• Achievement drive- Striving to improve or meet a standard of excellence
• Commitment- Aligning with the goals of the group
• Initiative – Readiness to act on opportunities.
• Optimism- Persistence in pursuing goals despite obstacles

Several theories seek to identify individual needs or motives and suggest how activates different behaviours. Success demands the drive to achieve. They learn to improve their performances by setting challenges and take calculates risks. People with commitment find a sense of purpose in the larger mission and actively seek out opportunities to fulfill their missions. Employees are ready to pursue goals beyond what is required or expected of them.

 


Social awareness


This includes two important skills that acquire for empathy: active listening and reading non-verbal cues. The hope is that feeling empathy for others will be a guide for good emotional maturity.
• Empathy- Awareness of other’s feelings, needs, and concerns.

 

These people tend to show sensitivity and help out based on understanding other people. They do understand others needs and match them to products. Empathetic understanding helps to seek ways to increase others satisfaction and loyalty.

 


Social skills


Social skills such as effective communication are mediator speaks and moves. It guides the process and helps the mediator to influence others. They show:
• Influence- wielding effective tactic for persuasion.
• Communication- listening openly and sending convincing messages.
• Conflict management- negotiating and resolving disagreements
• Change catalyst- managing change
• Team capabilities- creating group synergy in collecting goals.

 

They are skilled at winning people over and use complex strategies like indirect influence to build consensus and support. Their fine tune presentations to appeal the listener. Deal with difficult issues straight- forwardly.
